In 1841 he appears in the Census living with his parents in Wetheral and his three brothers, Archibald, Jacob and James. They are living a rural farming life.
In 1851 he is still single aged 31, living with the family including his parents, sister Jane 25 and brother James age 15. He is working as a farm labourer in Wetheral.

William is elusive in both the 1861 and 1871 Census.
1873 William dies at the age of 54 somewhere in the Carlisle district.
