Archibald Hoodless was baptised on 14th April 1793 at Wetheral, the second child of William and Margaret.
2nd November 1817 he marries Elizabeth Clark of Cotehill, Cumberland.
Their first child William is baptised 16th May 1819 at Wetheral.
29th July 1821 a daughter is baptized Margaret. Her name is spelled Hadless on the document.
1841 Census they are a family of six persons additional children Archibald, Jacob and James appear. Archie is working as a farm labourer and they still live in Wetheral.
1851 Census Archie is still working as a farm labourer in Wetheral at the age of 57 and his kids William, Jane and James are still at home.
1861 Archie’s wife Elizabeth dies in 1858 and he is listed as a widower, living in the small village of Kingstown just north of Carlisle. He is still doing some farm labouring work but has become a bit more entrepreneurial and now is a”beer shopkeeper”.
1871 Archie has moved back to Wetheral and now runs a grocer shop in the village. His daughter Jane and granddaughter Elizabeth lives with him and he has a couple of boarders
Archie dies at the ripe old age of 84 on 15th October 1877 in Wetheral. He leaves £20 a humble amount of savings for his hard work which is the equivalent of $3140 in 2021.
