From the moment I heard there was an old family bible with births, deaths and marriages recorded in it and persuaded my nana to let me look at it, I have been fascinated by genealogy. I started tracing the branches of my family tree well before there was an internet or digital records. Exploring the family history sections in various libraries, scrolling through microfiches and the IGI on card file. How far we have come since then! Ancestry websites, DNA databases!
I chose Hoodless as the subject of my one name study in tribute to my nana, Elizabeth Louvain Hoodless, who unknowingly triggered this lifelong obsession of mine. I dedicate it also to my mother who keeps the stories alive and fills in many gaps with invaluable information that can’t be found in documents.
This project is also really a collaboration with all the genealogists, beginners or experts, who are generous enough to share information and help extend our communal knowledge. They, like myself, do it for the excitement and enjoyment of discovering the past and giving names and histories to those who enabled us to be here.
